Round table dedicated to the 100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev held in Kyiv

A round table "100th anniversary of Heydar Aliyev. His role in strengthening Azerbaijani-Ukrainian friendly ties" was held at Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University.

As reported by the Eastern European bureau of Report agency, the event organized by the Embassy of Azerbaijan in Ukraine on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the birth of the great leader Heydar Aliyev, was attended by members of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, ambassadors of foreign countries to Ukraine, the leadership of Taras Shevchenko Kyiv National University, members of public and political communities.

Volodymyr Bugrov, Rector of Kyiv Taras Shevchenko National University, said that the foundation of modern relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine was laid precisely during Heydar Aliyev's presidency: "He left behind a worthy successor - President Ilham Aliyev, thanks to whom the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan was restored. Azerbaijan now has a high international authority. The basis of these successes was the skillful leadership of the country, thoughtful domestic and foreign policy. President Ilham Aliyev justified the trust of his father and the entire Azerbaijani people."

The Ambassador of Azerbaijan in Ukraine, Seymur Mardaliev noted that holding this event in such a prestigious educational institution is another manifestation of sincere respect for the memory of the national leader, outstanding politician and statesman Heydar Aliyev: "He came to power in Azerbaijan in 1993 , a difficult time when due to the military aggression of Armenia and the occupation of Azerbaijani lands, external pressure and internal strife, Azerbaijan faced great challenges for its statehood. Heydar Aliyev, thanks to his wisdom and iron will, managed to save Azerbaijan, paved the way for the sustainable development of the people, and later achieved great success in the political and social sphere".

S.Mardaliyev noted that Heydar Aliyev inscribed his name in golden letters in the history of Azerbaijan: "The comprehensive reforms carried out by Heydar Aliyev turned Azerbaijan into a modern, strong and self-sufficient, dynamically developing country. Undoubtedly, Heydar Aliyev's greatest desire was the restoration of Azerbaijan, his dream came true in 2020, when as a result of the Second Karabakh War, Azerbaijan restored its territorial integrity and freed its territories from 30 years of occupation, and a month ago restored full sovereignty over internationally recognized territories. President of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev successfully continues the policy of strategic partnership between the two countries, established by the great leader Heydar Aliyev".

Member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, co-chairman of the Ukrainian-Azerbaijani interparliamentary friendship group Valery Kolyukh noted that thanks to its successful foreign policy, Azerbaijan is a strategic partner of many countries, especially Ukraine: "Close friendly relations between Azerbaijan and Ukraine developed long before the official establishment of diplomatic relations between Kyiv and Baku. the leader of the Azerbaijani people, Heydar Aliyev, always treated the people of Ukraine with special warmth and attention, as the first deputy chairman of the Council of Ministers of the USSR, he did a lot for Ukraine, provided assistance in the construction of a number of large industrial enterprises, factories, cultural and sports complexes in Ukraine.

Member of the Milli Majlis – the Parliament of the Republic of Azerbaijan, co-chairman of the Azerbaijani-Ukrainian interparliamentary friendship group Kamran Bayramov, member of the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Oleksandr Merezhko, Ambassador of Ukraine to Azerbaijan in 1997-2004 Borys Alekseenko, director of the Institute of World History of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine Kudryachenko and others also spoke at the event.
